 Rio Grande School serves students from three years old to grade six, with class sizes ranging from 16-22 students, a 6:1 student educator ratio, and a total school population of 170. Located at the base of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains on five acres of high desert, surrounded by arroyos and hiking trails, Rio Grande School is perfectly situated for students to engage with both the natural wonders of the outdoors and the academic rigors of the classroom.

The school is seeking candidates for the following positions beginning in August 2024: 

 

Part-Time Community Engagement Coordinator

As a Community Engagement Coordinator, you will develop and implement strategies to engage community members, stakeholders, and partners in various initiatives, events, and programs. Your role will involve coordinating outreach efforts, organizing community events for RGS families and the greater Santa Fe population, managing communication channels, and collecting feedback to improve community engagement. In collaboration with Rio Grande educators, you will provide opportunities for students to participate in social action so they can see themselves as agents of change and proprietors of anti-bias and justice.

This is a part-time 12-month position that will begin in August 2024.

 

Qualified individuals will have a minimum of three years working in an elementary school setting and ideally have attained at least a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field or be willing to pursue such a degree.

 

The Community Engagement Coordinator Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and execute community engagement plans to promote awareness of our organization's mission, programs, and services;
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with community members, local organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders;
  • Teach at least four weeks of service-learning summer programs for students in grades 3-6;
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify service learning opportunities and develop initiatives to address them effectively;
  • Develop a comprehensive definition of service learning at Rio Grande School and create a vertical scope and sequence of grade-level initiatives that support the classroom curricula;
  • Organize and facilitate community events, workshops, and meetings to foster connections and gather input from community members;
  • Utilize various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and websites, to disseminate information and engage with the community;
  • Respond to inquiries, feedback, and concerns from community members promptly and professionally;
  • Conduct outreach activities to recruit volunteers, participants, and supporters for community programs and initiatives;
  • Coordinate and support community-based projects, including volunteer activities, beautification projects, and neighborhood improvement efforts;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community engagement strategies and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Maintain accurate records, databases, and reports on community engagement activities and outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations or community-based organizations;
  • Familiarity with grant writing;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Knowledge of non-profit and other local organizations;
  • A desire to work with children and adults to create experiences that promote perspective-building, anti-bias, and social justice;
  • Experience with service learning work and a knowledge of best practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift lightweight equipment/materials for event setup and breakdown.
  • Mobility to travel to various community locations and events.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to communicate effectively with community members and stakeholders.

Substitute Teacher

The Rio Grande School seeks dynamic, positive, collaborative individuals to be substitute teachers. Rio Grande School is a coeducational, nonsectarian independent elementary school for students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Substitute teachers must be able to provide a positive experience for elementary-age children, maintain safety and discipline, and follow sub plans. Qualified individuals will have at least 2 years of experience working with children in this age group.
