PERFORMING ARTS

In the Performing Arts program, students will be inspired as they engage in creative learning experiences in Drama, Music, and Movement. They will also make important learning connections by bringing their core curriculum into the performing arts classroom and the performing arts curriculum into their home classroom.

In drama activities, students will develop knowledge, skills, and understanding by taking on roles and creating imagined situations. Students will participate in several different drama forms including improvisation, pantomime, storytelling, puppetry, and video. Students will also use their knowledge of drama concepts to improvise and write monologues, scenes, and scripts. (National Standards for Theatre)

In music activities, students will develop knowledge, skills, and understanding by actively making music. They will sing and play instruments in a creative environment based on the Orff-Schulwerk approach to teaching. Students will be introduced to many different styles of music from a variety of time periods and cultures. Students will also use their knowledge of musical concepts to improvise and organize sound into musical compositions using both iconic and traditional notation. (National Standards for Music)

In movement activities, students will develop knowledge, skills, and understanding by learning how to use their bodies to express artistic ideas. They will use a variety of sources as inspiration as they choreograph and transform concepts and ideas into movement. Students will also be introduced to many different styles of dance from a variety of time periods and cultures. (National Standards for Dance)
