I am eager to meet and connect with the entire Rio Grande community and am grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of the school, as it matches what I believe is vital in education with its emphasis on active and integrated learning for the whole child. After all, education is not only about teaching content; it is also about helping children to become well-rounded individuals and strong global citizens.
I have always loved all things related to words and stories, and as a teacher it is of the utmost importance to me to pass that love of learning and language on to my students. I have taught Language Arts and English as a Second Language in a variety of forms to students of many ages and abilities for about twelve years, and I have been able to tie these experiences together to form a perspective of teaching that considers the many factors that go into learning, and learning well. I look forward to working with 5th and 6th graders to build a strong writing-reading workshop, connect these language skills to their lives, and prepare them for what comes next.
As a lifelong learner myself, I hold a Bachelor of Science in English Education and a Master of Arts in English with certificates in TESOL and Creative Writing. I am passionate about literature and writing, but I also enjoy the outdoors, yoga and other sports, music, cooking, and spending time with my family. We have called Santa Fe our home for close to ten years and will continue to enjoy all that this wonderful place has to offer.
