Catherine Kaiser

Catherine (known to students as Ms. Katy) brings 30 years of classroom teaching experience to
the Grandes class. She holds a background in traditional Early Childhood Development and is
AMI-certified through Montessori Northwest in Portland, Oregon. Her extensive training and
expertise provide a rich foundation to support the growth and development of each child in her
care.

In 2005, Katy helped launch the Early Childhood Program at Rio Grande School alongside
colleague JoAnne Aversa. She left in 2012 to pursue her Montessori training and, after several
years immersed in the Montessori approach, developed a deep appreciation for the Reggio
Emilia philosophy as well. Drawn back to the values and community of RGS, she returned in
2019. This year marks her 14th year overall at the school.

Katy was inspired early in her adult life to pursue a career in early childhood education, driven
by her passion for children and human development. She recognizes the significance of early
brain development and is committed to creating meaningful, enriching experiences that help
children build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Outside the classroom, Katy enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors,
especially mountain biking, hiking, practicing yoga, and camping.
